How do they work?

Composting toilets function similarly to your household toilet, except they do not flush valuable water resources into overburdened and outdated water treatment plants.

Instead they create a safely contained and odourless catchment area, facilitating the natural process of microorganisms to decompose human waste into compost. They effectively separate urine and solid waste and use bulking agents like wood shavings or coconut coir for aeration and moisture control. Once decomposition is complete, the resulting nutrient-rich compost can be utilized for plants or soil enrichment, providing an eco-friendly waste management solution for off-grid areas and environmentally conscious individuals, without the unnecessary use of litres of fresh drinking water!
